Our 2009 Mt. Veeder Napa Valley Zinfandel continued the recent trend of Sky Zinfandels that being somewhat more fruit-driven and approachable at a young age, while still retaining the characteristic structure and elegance which guarantees that the wine will age and develop for years to come.
As always, the 2009 Zinfandel is 100% estate grown and bottled and 100% Zinfandel. It was hand-picked, crushed into open top one ton fermenters, and punched down by hand three times daily during the primary fermentation. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. It was bottled in May 2011 and labeled in January 2013. The label is original artwork by winemaker owner Lore Olds and depicts a nine-patch quilt motif of the winery. (The winery is actually a barn built by Lore’s architect father, Walter Olds, in 1976 with reclaimed wood from San Francisco’s Pier 69).
