Sky has been making 100% estate grown and estate bottled zinfandel since the late 1970s. Our first commercial release was 1979. Our vines are dry-farmed and have been farmed organically for over a decade.
Sky Zinfandel is grown atop Mt. Veeder, 1200 feet above sea level on eastern facing hills. The volcanic soil, warm days, and fog chilled nights create an ideal environment for cultivating a unique Zinfandel.
We believe that wine should express where it originates and endeavor to allow our zinfandel to reflect the natural beauty of its home. The zinfandel often shows mountain sage garrigue, pomegranate or cherry fruit, and a peppery quality. The wine is lower alcohol than many California zinfandels, and consequently more elegant and nuanced than expected.
Due to the structure, acidity, and relatively low alcohol content, Sky Zins age remarkably well. Most vintages will last for 10-30 years. Many of our wines from the eighties and nineties continue to present in a youthful and alive manner.
