In 2000 we planted one hectare (2.47 acres) of Syrah. We planted three French clones: 877, 174, and 470 andone Australian clone: Shiraz 7. Our syrah is cultivated with the same sustainable practices we employ with our Zinfandel vines, and crushed and vinified in small batches. The vines are organically grown and dry-farmed.

We were inspired to plant Syrah at Sky for several reasons. It is a favorite varietal of the Sky Crew. We are huge fans of Syrah grown in the Northern Rhone and South Australia (perhaps reflected in our clone choices). We also enjoyed a number of locally produced Syrahs so we figured that the unique terrain and climate at Sky might be well-suited to this variety. To quote one of our favorite French winemakers, “Syrah likes a good view.”  The view from the Syrah parcels at Sky is hard to beat and we believe this is reflected in our wines.

Our 2010 Sky Syrah is our current release.  Like our prior vintage, the wine expresses both a continuity of Sky terroir and an exciting exploration in a new direction.  Please visit our online store or a contact a local retailer for Sky Syrah.
